Counselor's Corner

Welcome to the Counselor's Corner!

This is a place for families and students to learn about the Christa McAuliffe Elementary Counseling Program & get to know the counselor. Elementary counselors follow the 3 domains set forth by the American Association of School Counselors (ASCA). The domains include socioemotional, academic, and college & career. This is done by providing classroom lessons, individual/group counseling, mental health resource referrals, community referrals, lunch bunch, school wide activities that promote mental health, etc.

About the School Counselor

Ms. Romasanta is excited to join the McAuliffe Challengers for another great year! She is originally from the Inland Empire area and settled into Oceanside, California in 2019. Her goal when working with students include teaching students coping tools, so students are able to learn ways needed to overcome current and future challenges. She became a school counselor because of the positive experiences she had with her own high school counselor. She will never forget her counselor's care, kindness, and willingness to go above and beyond to help students succeed in attaining goals. This is something Ms. Romasanta strives to emulate with her own students.

SEL Classroom Lessons

Small Group Counseling

Lunch Bunch

Mindfulness Club

Classroom lessons are taught monthly. Topics include the 5 CASEL competencies: self awareness, self-management, responsible decision-making, relationship skills, & social awareness.

Students can be recommended for small group counseling by teachers & families. Topics include: social skills, positive friendships, support for family changes, conflict mediation, among a multitude of other topics depending on the needs of students.

Lunch Bunch provides students with opportunities to get along with others, problem-solve, and practice social skills. Students get to know each other and our counselor in meaningful ways. It also provides students with a new supervised activity to do at lunch recess.

Mindfulness Club started in 2021. Students who participate in this club have a calm place to learn & practice emotion regulation skills. Students spread calm & kindness through McAuliffe by creating encouraging posters, doing acts of kindness for other students & staff, along with contributing to the over all positive school climate.
