Helpful Information

Important Reminders:

REMIND 101 Codes:  Please sign up for your team’s reminders. Parents are welcome to sign up too.

*Boys text @ohsbtf to 81010 *Girls text @ohsgtf to 81010

SCHEDULE:  *Our schedule is attached, but changes may still happen. As we get information sheets from schools, which usually happens 2 weeks before a meet, we will let you know what time running and field events will start and what the order will be. Please communicate this to parents. We will use REMIND to send this information out too.

PRACTICES:  *1. Warm up as a team. 2. Focus-area specific workouts are explained and a coach is assigned to each group. This could be running-based, specific field events, or both depending on your specialized areas. 3. Cool-down. This could consist of abs/push ups, hurdle work, running, or other kinesthetic drills. 4. Stretch. Every part of practice is important; there isn’t any “busy work” so please work with a group and a coach to complete all parts of the practice well. This is what sets us apart.  *We post the week’s workout plan at the beginning of the week; plans may change though.

*We are typically done with practice around 5:30, but once we separate into focused areas (jumpers, vaulters, hurdles, throws, etc.), practices may go later or finish earlier depending the workout for the day. Always check in with a coach when you think you are done.

WEATHER:  *Track weather is INCONSISTENT to say the least! Be prepared to be outside in any weather. Have extra clothes here--layers are best! We will be outside, so please have hats, gloves, base layers, sweatshirts, etc. Plan on this from day #1!

EVENTS:  *Don’t be afraid to try something new! You may think you are a “sprinter” but please be open to trying different events and learning from those around you. You won’t know if you are good at an event until you try, and try again, and try again.

SPRING REGISTRATION:  *You need to register for track if you haven’t yet. See Lori Maypark in the office if you have questions. You CAN NOT practice until this is complete.  *Please check with Lori about physicals and athletic codes if this if your first sport of the year.

CLOTHING ORDERS:  *The clothing order link is on the Track and Field webpage. Orders will open today and will close on February 8th. Get your orders in ASAP!

GEAR:  *SHOES: Buy quality shoes (Asics, Brooks, Saucony) to help prevent leg/feet pain and injuries. Lighter isn’t better; you need support. Spikes are recommended but not required. Know the difference between sprinting, distance, jumping, and throwing spikes/shoes. Please see us with any questions.

*Black undergarments (except bras or boys spandex above the knee).

*Watches (especially distance runners) are recommended for timing your workouts. See us if you need one.

OSCEOLA MIDDLE SCHOOL MEETS:  *If you are available to help, we ask that you work an event at our home middle school events. The MS athletes are excited to have HS athletes there and the coaches appreciate your help. These are usually done by 6:30pm.
