For their Semester 1 Criterion D (applying mathematics in real-life contexts) assessment, Grade 10 Standard blogged about applications of trigonometry in science and technology. The posts are aimed at an audience that has studied right-angled triangle trigonometry (whether recently or in a more distant past!) but has perhaps forgotten (or were never taught) why and how these mathematical methods are used in real life. In composing these posts, students had to consider the reasons for their choices of the example numbers presented in example calculations, and also use ideas about measurement limitations from science class to discuss the accuracy of their results.Â
