What is a GFO?
A Gathering for Orrington (GFO) is part fundraiser, part community-building. Formerly known as “buy-in parties,” GFOs are events of many kinds where hosts sponsor an event for Orrington families, students or caregivers, with all ticket revenues going directly to the PTA as a fundraiser.
Best Practices
Events should be as inclusive as possible - consider ages of participants, timing with work schedules, cost to attend and other limiting factors
Grab a co-host or two, and don’t break the bank! Remember, the cost of the event is covered by the hosts, with all ticket revenues going to the PTA.
Promotion is a group effort - the PTA will promote your event to the whole Orrington audience, but we request that hosts also help promote events to drive attendance!

Wine Tasting for Orrington

Where: Vinissimo Wine Shop
When: Weeknight, 7:15pm-9pm
Cost to Sponsor(s): $325 (venue) + cost of wine
Number of attendees: 16-25
Event Description: Shop owner, Guy, will select wines with you for the group to taste based on your preferences. He will pour the wines & offer insights to the wines should attendees have interest. These events can be educational, but more often turn into a more casual cocktail party at the wine shop, with option to purchase wines you’ve tasted.
Suggested Ticket Price: $50
Tarot Reading for Orrington
Where: Your home, or event space of your choosing with tarot reader Barbara Meyer
When: Evening on a weeknight or weekend, 1-3 hours
Cost to Sponsor(s): 1.5 hours of reading for 15 people ($300),
Number of of attendees: 10-20
Event Description: Enjoy some drinks & light bites and some fantastic entertainment from Barbara Meyer- one of the top Psychic Entertainers in the Chicago Area. She specializes in tarot palm reading and will give each of your guests an insightful, positive and fun reading. Barbara is flexible and can fit her act into your plans. She can sit at a separate table and let people come to her or walk unobtrusively through the crowd reading as people talk among themselves. This event can be fun for both kids & adults - Barbabra will read for real for the adults, and if small children want to be read, pull a card and tell them something positive.
Suggested Ticket Price: $50
Movie Night for/at Orrington
Where: Orrington Playground or your backyard!
When: While its warm (Sept/Oct/April/May), Evening of your choice at sunset
Cost to Sponsor(s): n/a – Orrington PTA will provide 20 foot inflatable screen, projector and blue tooth speaker if necessary. Only cost to you would be any fun add ons (i.e. popcorn)!
Number of of attendees: TBD based on size of your yard, Orrington playground can accommodate 50+.
Event Description: Who needs the drive in, or a movie in the park, when you can host a Movie in your back yard, or the Orrington playground? Encourage guests to bring seating/blankets of their choice and enjoy the show.
Suggested Ticket Price: $25/family
