OMS Families

At the OMS media center, we promote literacy by providing a rich and diverse collection of books, guiding students in their book selection, and supporting classroom literacy initiatives.

We support students in the process of inquiry by recommending reliable information resources, encouraging critical analysis of resources, and collaborating with classroom teachers.

Parents provide much needed support for the library by:

• Volunteering! It is never too late to begin volunteering in the library. We are in a process of refreshing the collection and re-evaluating our use of space. There are many projects to complete. Visit once, volunteer occasionally, or on a regular schedule.

• Collecting Box Tops for Education

  • Two times each year Box Tops for Education sends us a check for the box tops we have submitted. When many are involved, they add up quickly. The money is used to purchase books for our students to read. You can also submit your receipts through the Box Tops app. Find out more here.

• Contributing to the OMS Patrons of the Media Center

  • The Orono Middle School Media Center is a resource used by everyone. We strive to provide current literature in a variety of formats as well as access to information to support learning in the classroom and enrichment opportunities.
