Welcome! My name is Amy Piersma and I am a Special Education teacher working primarily with the 7th and 8th grade students in the Jr-Sr High School. I earned my Masters in Special Education from the College of St. Rose in Albany. My first teaching job was here at Oriskany Jr.- Sr. High School in 2003 and I have been a teacher in the Oriskany School District ever since! I am currently coaching the Varsity Cheer squad and serving as the Co-Adviser for the Varsity Club.
Students who enter the Resource Room have the opportunity to preview and review materials taught in their General Education classes. Students will learn strategies to help them study, gain a better understanding of content specific vocabulary, learn self advocacy skills and work on goals as outlined in their Individual Education Program.
The goal of the resource room is to help students achieve their academic goals as they learn to advocate for their needs. It is the expectation that all learners will behave in a respectful and supportive manner. Students are encouraged to ask questions, try new skills and explore areas of interest as they prepare for life after high school. `
