My name is Mr. Wimmer, a dedicated Social Studies teacher who believes studying history is key to understanding our present and shaping our future. I focus on helping upperclassmen develop critical thinking and analytical skills by exploring historical contexts and applying past lessons to current issues. Through this approach, I aim to equip students with the ability to tackle complex problems and make informed decisions, preparing them for success in the real world.
Current courses taught at Oriskany include AP US History, MVCC American History, MVCC American Government, and Economics.
As a member of the Oriskany community, you students are held to high standards, and that expectation is the same in my classroom. As young adults, I expect you all to be capable of conducting yourselves with respect and dignity within the classroom. Detailed information on school-wide policies is also available in the student handbook which is available on the school website. For MVCC Dual Credit students, please refer to the MVCC guidelines as well.
The list below is the core principles you should expect every student to be held to in my classroom:
Be Prompt
Class begins when the bell rings. You are expected to be in your seat and working on the bell ringer immediately. Arriving late or failing to begin work right away disrupts learning.
Be Prepared
Bring the necessary materials every day. While digital copies of many assignments will be provided, you are still responsible for having notes, writing utensils, and paper ready for use.
Participate
Active participation means following classroom procedures, staying focused, working respectfully with partners or groups, and contributing thoughtfully to class discussions. Listening attentively and staying engaged are just as important as speaking out.
Be Positive
Approach class with a growth mindset. Stay flexible, treat challenges as opportunities, and remember the power of “yet.” Setbacks are part of the learning process, and perseverance leads to progress.
