Welcome to 3rd Grade!
Hello and welcome to 3rd grade! My name is Joy Armstrong and I am in my 4th year of teaching. I have been in the Oriskany School District for all 4 years teaching 3rd grade. I attended Oriskany from pre-K through to 12th grade, where I graduated as the valedictorian of the Class of 2018. Oriskany holds a special place in my heart and I feel so lucky to be able to fulfill my dream of becoming a teacher at my alma mater. I attended MVCC for my associate degree and then was a part of the bridge program that MVCC has with SUNY Oneonta to obtain my bachelor's degree in childhood education. I recently received my master's degree online through Grand Canyon University in literacy. I dedicate a lot of time to work, but I also enjoy spending time with my family, friends and pets. I have a nephew who is going into 6th grade at Westmoreland and I spend any time I can with him. I have always had a passion for children and teaching and look forward to a great year with amazing students!

3rd grade is the first year that students take the state assessments in both math and ELA. Please do not panic as they do not count for a grade and do not determine if your child moves onto the next grade level. I will fully prepare the students with the content they need to know and test-taking strategies. All tests will be computer-based this year and the students will be taking them on their Chromebooks. If your child is absent on testing day, they will be able to make it up when they return. More information will follow when we get closer to the testing dates.
Testing Dates:
ELA: April 15 & 16
Math: April 22 & 23
Your child will need sneakers everyday for gym
Please make sure your child has weather appropriate clothing to go outside for recess when weather permits
Please send in a healthy snack each day
Please try to have your child complete their math and spelling homework every night
