Conduct early-stage, exploratory research on how to integrate education about AI into first-year undergraduate courses for engineering and public policy majors.
Technology and policy impact everyone’s life. As modern-day artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, such as generative AI and robotics, become more integrated into people’s everyday lives, the public’s interest and concern regarding these technologies rise, and the tech policies and ethics regarding the safety and security of people and technology become increasingly more important.
Promote innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration to address real-world challenges posed by artificial intelligence (AI) by developing modules for a diverse range of engineering and public policy undergraduate students
Key Goals of the Project
Bridge STEM and public policy education by fostering collaboration between traditionally siloed disciplines
Enhance first-year undergraduate education with the inherent biases, limitations, and ethical dilemmas of AI technologies
Equip students with the tools to critically evaluate and responsibly engage with AI technologies
Promote evidence-based pedagogical practices using the Narrative Policy Framework with computational exercises
Encourage broader participation in STEM through including those from non-technical backgrounds
Contribute to scholarly knowledge about interdisciplinary undergraduate STEM education
