Invitation to participate in a study

A study on the effectiveness of commercial collaborative VR applications for enhancing distance education

Study Goals

We are conducting a research study to evaluate the effectiveness of collaborative immersive applications for teaching activities. The main objectives of this study are to understand if current off-the-shelf collaborative products meet the expectations and requirements of instructors and to gather requirements for future design efforts.

Immersive technology is an emerging trend in the field of education and has evidence of increasing student engagement and motivation that can be driving factors for academic excellence. We are looking for instructors who can help us validate the current state of the art by participating in this research study and providing their feedback.

The study is conducted remotely. The breakdown of the study stages and the delivery mode are described below:

  • Pre-exposure Questionnaire - Self-Paced: 20 minutes [Qualtrics]

  • Session1 - Application Walkthrough: 45 minutes [Zoom, Google Drive, Qualtrics]

  • Session2 - Hands-on Immersive Experience: 120 minutes [Zoom, VR equipment, Qualtrics]

*Hands-on Immersive session will be scheduled by appointment based on your availability

The activities of this study involve wearing a Head-Mounted Display (HMD) for exploring the application and performing tasks. The tasks include activities such as configuring the virtual classroom, presenting course materials, and using classroom tools.

To participate in this research, you must:
