California Young Reader Medal
This is a popular program where students get to vote for their favorite picture book among the five books nominated by the California Young Reader Medal Committee.
After all five books are read to them, students individually pick the book they liked the best. Our school then submits our vote to the California Young Reader Medal website. All other participating Elementary Schools throughout the state submit their votes as well.
We then get to see if our favorite was the favorite among the whole state!!

After the Fall
Original Mother Goose nursery rhyme:
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall;
All the king's horses and all the king's men
Couldn't put Humpty together again.
Humpty Dumpty Fun Fact #1:
According to military historians, Humpty Dumpty was the name of a cannon used by English Royalists in the English Civil War of 1642-1649.
During the war, Royalists placed the cannon on the wall surrounding the city of Colchester. In 1648, while under attack, an enemy’s cannonball blew apart the wall upon which Humpty Dumpty sat, sending it tumbling to the ground. The cannon was beyond repair.
Humpty Dumpty Fun Fact #2:
In chapter 6 of the classic book Through the Looking-Glass by Lewis Carroll, Alice (in Wonderland) meets the character Humpty Dumpty who is written and illustrated as an EGG even though it was originally a cannon! 🤯
