Advice:
I'd say the one piece of advice I'd give design students looking to break into the creative space is to simply keep creating and learning. Watch tutorials online to learn new programs and create your own projects. For me, the best way to learn is to do it! The projects can be small too--keep the momentum of finishing projects so you don't get stuck and bored with what you're working on. Also, I encourage you to collaborate! Creative jobs are highly collaborative and a lot of the time you're working with others to create a client's vision. You are constantly getting feedback and having to pivot your ideas, so don't get too attached to anything because it'll probably change. Be able to take feedback and be open to your teammates' ideas.

Advice:
Network in anyway you can, in person or online. Networking shows you’re invested in what you’re passionate about. Consider networking like putting time into your craft. The art can be there but you work on the other aspect of art which is business or exposure. The reality of the workplace is there is a lot of nepotism so it helps to have good relationships with people cause you never know their positions or who they know.
Career Update:
I design merchandise and advertising materials for my local coffee shop. I’ve learned that I like freelance design more than I did designing in a corporate setting. I’m also looking to pursue more education for myself.
Advice:
Make friends! It’s easier said than done but most job and creative opportunities come from the genuine connections you’ve made. Make time to create art for yourself and explore as many different mediums as you can. Some of my best designs have been made using physical materials instead of staying in a digital space.

Advice:
Take a good look around you and explore. Explore what works and what doesn’t. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes—trust me, you’ll be making a lot of them as a designer. Surround yourself with all kinds of influences: art, nature, and even music. By allowing yourself to be curious and open-minded, you’ll develop a unique perspective that will enhance your skills and make your work more authentic and compelling.

Advice:
I believe that it’s important for budding artists, designers in particular to understand that the field is better portrayed as a medium of communication and fostering the ability for others to be creative via our solutions. As designers, a ground-up, speculative approach to a problem is infinitely more effective than designing from the top down, without the user or proper communication in mind. Speculative design has changed my life.

Advice:
My advice to current design students is to trust your vision and confidently pursue what your mind is envisioning. Fear of the unknown can lead to complacency, so stay ambitious and continue striving for what you want. If something doesn’t work out, that’s okay—at least you tried and won’t be left wondering about the ‘what ifs.’ Remember, where the mind goes, the energy follows.
