Public Safety Pathway

Mr. Kilgore

When I was 7 years old, I saw a TV show called Adam 12. The show was about two Los Angeles Police Officers patrolling the streets. It showed the officers in various real life scenarios and I thought it was exciting and fun. I was hooked and I knew right then this is what I wanted to be when I grew up.

I began my career in law enforcement in Northern Ca (Long Story). After about three years, I wanted to return to Southern Ca and became a Police Officer for the City of Tustin. While with the Tustin PD, I had the opportunity to work alongside the FBI, DEA, Secret Service, and CIA. I worked as the departments Juvenile Detective which was my most rewarding job. After returning to patrol, I was injured and had to medically retire. I still miss the job today.

I met my wife who was a dispatcher when I first started working for Tustin. We have been married ever since and we have three adult children.

I was always involved in my kids sports programs as they grew up. From baseball to gymnastics to volleyball, I was their coach and biggest fan. I enjoyed helping my kids and others on my teams to be the best they could be.

I always thought when I was younger, if I didn't go into Law Enforcement, I would become a teacher. After retiring from Law enforcement, I still wanted to teach young adults in some way. When I learned about CTE and how I could share my experience with others, I knew this is what i wanted to do. Here I am and it's been a great adventure!!

Every new school year brings new excitement. Who will be my new students and what will they be like. This school year is different because of leaning from home due to the Coronavirus. But it's really not different at the same time. I still get to teach great students at VP and learn abou my new students. I still get to teach fascinating things about the Criminal Justice System and CSI and hopefully spark their interests.
