Principal's Update

It was an outstanding week for the arts at El Modena. El Modena Performing Arts distinguished themselves at the 2026 Orange Unified VAPA Showcase, with our Honors Band and Orchestra, as well as our Honors Choir and Dance students, representing our school with excellence. It was truly inspiring to see the progression of talent from elementary to middle to high school performances, highlighting the strength of the arts pathway across our district. Our band, orchestra, and choir students also had the unique opportunity to collaborate with guest conductors alongside other OUSD high school musicians. Our El Modena Chamber Singers, Pom, and VDC groups showcased their impressive skills and dedication, leaving a lasting impression on all in attendance.

We are also proud to share that three of our students were recognized in the Chapman University Holocaust Art & Writing Contest. This highly respected and competitive program challenges students to reflect on history, human rights, and the importance of remembrance through their creative work. Please join me in congratulating Sophia Noguera,
Alexander Tran, and Liana Sartwell for their outstanding achievement. We are incredibly proud of the dedication and effort they put into their pieces, and we are honored to have our students represented in such an important and impactful event.

We hope everyone has a restful spring break and returns ready to tackle the end of the school year, including AP and CAASPP testing. Enjoy time with family and friends!

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL UPDATES

The Empty Chair does not Learn. OUSD is a District of Excellence and El Modena is a School of Excellence. Let’s help our students have Attendance of Excellence.

DO YOUR KIDS HAVE PAST DUE BOOKS, TECHNOLOGY OR FEES?

Last school year, a video showing how to look up what textbooks, library books, technology, and fees were connected to your student’s account was created. Although the voiceover mentions last year’s seniors and graduation, the step-by-step guide to see what books, technology, and fees are owed is still current. Please take a look at the video and have your child return the text or library books that are overdue, pay for any lost material, or go to the library to make arrangements for the missing books or technology. We will assign Saturday detentions for students that do not take care of this soon.

Prevention: It Starts With You!

Parent & Caregiver Workshop

El Modena High School FNL, in partnership with the Orange County Department of Education, is excited to host an important Alcohol and Drug Prevention Workshop for parents and caregivers on Monday, April 13 from 6:30–8:00 p.m. in the El Modena High School Library.

This workshop will provide families with up-to-date information on current drug trends—including alcohol, vaping, cannabis, and fentanyl—while also addressing how substance use impacts young people’s health and brain development. Parents will walk away with practical communication strategies to help guide teens toward healthy choices.

We encourage all families to attend this valuable evening.

Senior Important Dates Coming Up:

Fri, May 1, 2026 CAP AND GOWN PICK-UP: Between Library and Gym, 1:30 pm until 3:30 pm
Fri, May 8, 2026 GRADUATION SPEECH: Last day to apply for graduation speech auditions. Application via Google Form.
Mon, May 18, 2026 SENIOR SURVEY will be distributed during English classes. All seniors are required to complete the survey as part of the SENIOR PASSPORT end-of-year requirement.
Wed, May 20, 2026 COLLEGE SIGNING DAY: Amphitheater at 8:00am. Check-in from 7:30 to 7:50 am. Seniors must sign up to attend. The sign-up form will be distributed through English 12 teachers, beginning May 1st.
Wed, May 20, 2026 GRADUATION SPEECH AUDITIONS: Auditions will be after lunch, for those who applied, in room 615
