Safer Internet Day

By: Karis Hong and Lindsey Lyons

As you can guess, Safer Internet Day is a day where you need to be aware of the dangers of the internet, and how to protect it. Of course, you should be doing this everyday, but if you don't already know you can learn the ways! This very important day that everybody should know is on February 6, on a Tuesday. The following is a list of ways you can protect yourself and others from the internet.

1. When creating a password for something, make sure to have a complex password where others can't guess, but you can memorize. This makes your internet safe so people can't guess your password.

2. You should be careful when talking or meeting to someone new. They're only a person behind a screen, and everything someone can tell you over a screen can be a complete lie. That person can be a hacker, cyberbully, or anything else. This will help you so you don't get into a bully incident or be hacked by someone else.

3. You don't want to click or download something bad. If you download something that you think is fishy, don't download it. It can be a virus or something. Always be careful of scams happening, and know when it's happening so you don't get hacked or scammed. You'll need to know the latest updates about hacks or scams on the internet.

4. Don't post or type your personal information. If you do this, you have the chance for someone to stalk you or can steal your identity. If posting person information, others are able to rob or other things if they get the specific information. Also, don't tell others every second of your day on the internet. This may lead you to a bad situation you wouldn't want.

If you follow all of these tips or ways, you can protect your internet. These aren't all of them, but they are one of the most important ones. Unfortunately, there are horrible people over the internet that can do all of the bad things included in the ways if you don't protect your internet and others. These hackers or scammers are getting smarter and advanced each day, so you need to keep updated on the news to see how you can protect yourself from the internet even more how we showed you. Fun Fact: Did you know that Google Sites was launched in this month? February 28, 2008. :D

Wrap each portion in clear plastic wrap; freeze for 20 minutes. Divide plain potion into eight pieces. Divide each colored portion into four pieces. Roll each piece on a lightly floured surface into an 8-inch-long rope. Flatten each on four sides to form a square rope. For checkerboard design, place four ropes side by side on waxed paper, alternating colors with plain ropes. Top with four more ropes, alternating colors. Repeat two more times, forming an 8x8x2-inch dough block with a checkerboard pattern. Wrap in waxed paper and freeze 1 hour or until firm. Cut dough crosswise into 1/4-inch-thick slices. Cut a heart shape from each slice with a floured 2-inch heart-shape cookie cutter. Reserve scraps for Bleeding Heart Cookies. Bake as directed.
