Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica
Purpose:
The purpose of the La Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (SHH) is to recognize high achievement in Spanish courses at the secondary level and to promote interest in Hispanic studies.
Academic requirements:
Maintain a GPA of at least 3.0 in all Spanish courses
Maintain a 2.667 GPA in all other courses
Current enrollment in Spanish III, Spanish IV, AP Spanish Language course, AP Spanish Literature course, or have successfully completed AP Spanish Lang. and/or Lit.
Current grade in Spanish of a B/A (minimum) at the time of the application and duration of membership
Community Commitment:
15 hours of community service (at least 10 relating to SHH and Spanish)
Attend bimonthly meetings and club activities with a 75% attendance rate or higher.

Candidates have established or are working toward the following personal goals:
Language Performance:
Exhibit a sincere interest and enthusiasm for Spanish
Seek opportunities to communicate in Spanish inside and outside the classroom
Provide tutoring designed to aid students who are having difficulty with language learning
Cultural Awareness:
Display a sincere appreciation for other cultures
Be open-minded and accepting of cultural diversity
Show interest and concern for what is happening in the world
Make an effort to be part of activities and events in the community that involve other languages and cultures
Personal Qualities:
Respect the rights and dignity of all people
Represent the high standards of the ELMO World Language Department
Strive to do their best in Spanish classes (and all classes)
Value honesty and high moral values
Demonstrate leadership qualities
Attend all classes punctually

Membership in a National Language Honor Society: the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (SHH), is sponsored by the AATSP, the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese
Official recognition that can be included on college, scholarship & job applications
Recognition at graduation, including wearing the official SHH stole
Eligibility for scholarships and national awards

We ask for a donation of $35 due upon notification of acceptance to help with the cost of the graduation stole and national membership dues/certificate.
Membership terminates if the student no longer meets the qualifications listed in the considerations above. A student may reapply for membership once requirements have been met again.
