Education Pathway Description

The Education Pathway prepares students to navigate college and career opportunities that support families and children. This includes exploring professions such as teaching, social work, pediatrics, counseling and more.

Students in this pathway will gain industry knowledge and can earn college credit while learning from an engaging curriculum, guest speakers, field trips, nature center tours, internships and educational competitions.

The Education Pathway provides hands on experience working with children at local elementary and afterschool programs, while supporting the educational needs of a variety of students at El Modena High School.


Courses offered in the Education Pathway

Child Development

Students study and explore the healthy physical, socio-emotional and cognitive aspects of human development from conception to early adulthood.

Careers in Education

This course prepares students for a career as a teacher. Students will learn classroom management, instructional strategies, lesson planning and more. As a part of this course, students will apply these skills in a paraprofessional internship experience at a local elementary or secondary school.

Professional Internship

Allows students to apply academic knowledge and demonstrate technical 21st-century skills in a workplace setting. Students will prepare job readiness documents and will interview at an assigned site before interning with a local educational industry partner.

About El Modena's Education Teacher

Mrs. Kristen Mulder


Mrs. Mulder has her B.A. in Liberal Studies from Vanguard University. Additionally, she has her multiple subject and CTE credentials. Mrs. Mulder has 25 years combined experience teaching children at the preschool, elementary, and high school levels. She is very passionate about education and motivating her students to explore the joys of working with children.
