The construction pathway introduces students to the fundamentals of construction safety, design, technology, and tools involved in the construction and repair of houses, buildings, and other structures. Students learn to apply engineering principles, techniques, handle equipment, and follow standard building procedures as a team.
The skills you learn in this pathway provide a great entry to careers such as Building Inspector, Equipment Operator, Heavy Duty Repair Person, Dredge Operator, Drywall Installers, Electricians, and Carpenters.
Courses Offered in Construction
Foundations in construction
Students will learn how to use the basic tools, read blueprints, and start to build basic structures. Students master measurement systems, safe use of hand and power tools, calculation and characteristic of materials, carpentry, framing, basic electrical wiring, plumbing, and site preparation. Students learn about construction and construction careers. Coursework is project-based, developing teamwork and project management skills. Students demonstrate responsibility for personal, occupational safety on the job site and have the opportunity to obtain OSHA cards certifying their competence.
Advanced construction
This course has been developed to intergrate skills and concepts from the Foundations of Construction with applied mathematics and English. Students will apply the craft skills required to design and build a variety of scaled structures that meet current code requirements. Students will make real-world connections between construction, math, and English using written projects, construction documents that include creating blueprints, project packets, and student centered construction projects. This course provides students the opportunity to apply academic knowledge and technical skills through a hands-on curriculum that meets pre apprenticeship requitements for the National Building Trades Council.

Mr. Lopez
Mr. Lopez has his Bachelor of Science in Human Services – Counseling, from California State University Fullerton and a Master’s in clinical Hypnotherapy. He has worked with special needs students and families for over 15 years. He recently transferred from Orange Unified Schools District where we worked in the Special Education Department to become a teacher. Mr. Lopez has worked in residential construction and home remodeling. He is very enthusiastic to support students creativity in their projects and teach them skills and confidence which they use in the future regardless of what industry sector they chose.
