Video Production Pathway Description 


The Video Production pathway provides students with the training to become professional filmmakers, editors, sound engineers and broadcast journalists. Classes utilize industry standard cameras and software. Students explore careers in filmmaking while gaining experience with video editing, cinematography, visual effects, sound design, storytelling as well as film history and aesthetics. 

A video project is the product of creativity, writing, rewriting, collaboration, the use of light, the use of space, camera shots and angles, color, audio and the completion of color and editing. Students will translate the video projects into its creative parts and learn how to create and produce the video. 

 

Students will study the impact of film and television on society from a social, economical and political viewpoint. They will study the impact of ethics of video and film and the emotional side of experiencing media. Students will study how media is perceived as reality and its portrayal of social groups. They will be required to complete written assignments and interact with local film organizations. 



Courses in the Video Production Pathway 

Art of TV & Video Production 1

This is our introductory course for video/filmmaking. Many students interested in video will start here. We cover everything from cameras, video editing, sound design, visual effects, cinematography, and film history/aesthetics.    


Art of TV & Video Production 2

  This course is for students who want to continue exploring video editing, creating short films, sound design and visual effects. The students will have the independence to work in small groups on passion projects and narrow their focus on production or post production areas that they want to explore. 


Video Production 3 / EMTV 

Advanced Video Production students have learned the basics of the video camera and video editing software and will now apply the fundamentals of design, composition, and thematic organization for the purpose of developing EMTV Online content, Broadcast, and various  creative endeavors. They will learn the specialized vocabulary of the film industry and use it to express themselves clearly and concisely in their critiques of TV, film, and their own work. 

 

Professional Internship 

Allows students to apply academic knowledge and demonstrate technical 21st century skills in a workplace setting. Students will prepare job readiness documents and will interview at an assigned site prior to interning with a local El Modena Business Partner.

Felipe Cunha has an extensive background working in professional film production and broadcast television as a camera operator, lead editor and post-production supervisor. He began his education and career in São Paulo, Brazil, where he grew up. Felipe speaks Portuguese, English, and conversational Spanish.

Felipe grew up in a family of educators and is very passionate about bringing his experience from the film industry into the classroom.



Vicki Mull graduated from University of Athens and earned her teaching credential from National University. She also earned her master’s in film studies from Chapman University. Vicki has taught 25 years, all in Orange Unified. All 6 of her kids have attended El Modena High School, and all plan to study film and journalism in college.
