The Video Production pathway provides students with the training to become professional filmmakers, editors, sound engineers and broadcast journalists. Classes utilize industry standard cameras and software. Students explore careers in filmmaking while gaining experience with video editing, cinematography, visual effects, sound design, storytelling as well as film history and aesthetics.
A video project is the product of creativity, writing, rewriting, collaboration, the use of light, the use of space, camera shots and angles, color, audio and the completion of color and editing. Students will translate the video projects into its creative parts and learn how to create and produce the video.
Students will study the impact of film and television on society from a social, economical and political viewpoint. They will study the impact of ethics of video and film and the emotional side of experiencing media. Students will study how media is perceived as reality and its portrayal of social groups. They will be required to complete written assignments and interact with local film organizations.
Art of TV & Video Production 1
Students will develop and apply knowledge of artistic principles and aesthetics, and acquire technical skills in producing video from concept to finished product. The curriculum leads students to perceive video/film as both an art form and a communication tool reflecting and influencing historical and contemporary culture. Students will produce original work including short video projects that demonstrate understanding of the fundamental aspects of the production process.
Art of TV & Video Production 2
This course provides instruction and training for students interested in careers in the video, broadcast, and film production industries. Students experience both the creative and technical aspects of filmmaking and video production in conjunction with learning about historical and contemporary traditions and conventions. Students will explore different aspects of the media and entertainment industry as it relates to potential career selections Students achieving competency in this course will be prepared to enter a film or broadcast journalism course of study at the college level or be prepared for entry-level employment in those fields.
Video Production 3 / EMTV
Advanced Video Production students have learned the basics of the video camera and video editing software and will now apply the fundamentals of design, composition, and thematic organization for the purpose of developing EMTV Online content, Broadcast, and various creative endeavors. They will learn the specialized vocabulary of the film industry and use it to express themselves clearly and concisely in their critiques of TV, film, and their own work.
All About El Modenas Video Production Teachers
Richard Flores Mr. Flores has a diverse background in mass media communications, education, and corporate operations. With a bachelor's degree from California State University San Bernardino and a teaching credential through California State University Fullerton, he honed his skills in communication, media production, and content creation. His experience spans various industries, including entertainment, education, and e-commerce. At Disney, Mr. Flores contributed to the theme park division, gaining valuable insights into the entertainment industry. Subsequently, he transitioned to an e-commerce company, where he excelled in marketing, ad creation, and production management. His roles as a videographer, stage manager, and production manager showcased his ability to lead teams and deliver high-quality results. Leveraging his strong organizational and interpersonal skills, Mr. Flores also took on a pivotal role in human resources, specializing in hiring and talent recruitment. This experience equipped him with a deep understanding of talent acquisition and employee development. His big passion is to see students succeed in the classroom but also developing critical life communication skills to be an impactful part of society.
Vicki Mull graduated from University of Athens and earned her teaching credential from National University. She also earned her master’s in film studies from Chapman University. Vicki has taught 25 years, all in Orange Unified. All 6 of her kids have attended El Modena High School, and all plan to study film and journalism in college.
