Sports Medicine Pathway Description

The Sports Medicine Pathway introduces and prepares students for occupations involved in prevention, treatment, and management of injury & illness. It also focuses on the preservation of mental and phsyical well-being through the services offered by medical allied health professions.

Studentsa are able to intern with an El Modena Althletic Trainer for first hand experience applying skills learned in MedCore and Sports Medicine 1.

Students have the opportunity to earn college credit for Sports Medicine 1 with OCC and IVC.

Courses in the Sports Medicine Pathway

Sports Medicine 1

Prepares students for the Sports Medicine field through the study of anatomy, phsyiology, and bodily systems. Students expand scientific knowledge in the evaluation, assessment and care of injuries as well as preventative techniques and wellness.

Sports Medicine 2

A competency based course preparing students for an entry-level job in sports medicine. Students are provided advanced classroom instruction by an El Modena Certified Athletic Trainer and have the opportunity to apply academic knowledge and demonstrate technical 21st century skills at El Modena High School events.

Professional Internship

Allows students to apply academic knowledge and demonstrate technical 21st-century skills in a workplace setting. Students will prepare job readiness documents and will interview at an assigned site before interning with a local El Modena Business Partner.


All About El Modena's Sports Medicine Teacher


Mr. Paul Linares received his Bachelors of Kinesiotherapy from California State University of Long Beach. He received his Master’s in Exercise Physiology from Cal Poly Pomona. Paul has worked as a physical therapist assistant, a rehabilitation facility coordinator, a health and wellness coach, and a personal trainer. Paul has been teaching at El Modena for 5 years. He is a new proud dad to a 5 month old girl!
