I had to dig four foot deep holes or until I reached ledge. Instead of mixing the concrete prior to putting it in the hole I just dumped half the bag into the hole and then once the post was in the hole I poured the rest of the concrete mix in around it. My mentor explained that there is enough moister in the ground to get the concrete mix to solidify without adding any water.
The blue Styrofoam was to keep the posts from moving in when the ground froze in the winter. Instead of the post moving the Styrofoam will just shift around.
I used the tractor to place the top beam that connected the posts together. We added extra temporary bracing to protect wind damage.
I dug two smaller post holes for the wood shed and added the top beam for those two posts.
This is a picture of my mentor's sawmill and milling shed. The right end of the machine slides down on a chain. This allows for the blade to cut down the log.
These are the rafters that were cut out of the Poplar trees that I cut from the build site.
The boards are used to strap the metal roofing onto the building. They were placed every 8 inches to help strengthen the roof.
The copula was built like a mini timber frame. Its the same concept as the main frame just small.
Installing the roofing was relatively painless accept for when I was standing on metal roofing while trying to use a screw gun at the same time. There was a bit of a learning curve but by the end I got the hang of it.
Puting up the siding on the sugar house was the easiest part of building the sugar house. I used a nail gun to attach each board, and to expedite the process my mentor did the cutting of each board.
This was a near end product I just had to add my doors and put the ridge cap on my roof. The end is near!!
I built the doors inside and then brought them out. They were very easy to make and came out looking great!
After a long few months March finally arrived and the sugar house was ready for use.
