My product consisted of several portrait pieces. I was determined to master two mediums, mine being pencil and watercolor. Spending multiple hours a week on art allowed me to learn a lot in a short period of time.
One of my first drawings this year, mainly using already existing knowledge
Here, I experimented with drawing multiple models, as-well as different hair textures.
First time trying to do very detailed skin textures. Time consuming, but the extra details add to it. I still needed heavy improvement regarding the hair
My final pencil drawing, done in the late fall. I used a detailed reference including clothes and heavy shadows. In total, this drawing took eight hours.
First time attempting watercolor realism with no experience in the medium. I realized my love for it and decided it would be my main method of art.
One of my many failed pieces. My downfall was rushing through it and not paying enough attention to colors and blending. This painting took 40 minutes while the one on the left took 6 hours.
Here, I attempted a darker skin tone. While not my best painting, as the hair is very dull and lacking in depth, I still like it.
My favorite painting. I feel like I executed the colored lighting well and the skin looks lively. Due to the darkness of her hair, I could get away with not adding a lot of detail.
The sketch of my final painting, note how I was sure to not add too much details as I would add the details later in paint.
The skin fully complete. I always do the hair last due to the amount of overlapping strands that are going to go on the skin layer anyways.
With the hair complete, I just need to fill in the clothes and background.
The finished product. Ended up going in with more of the hair pigment to sharpen the left side of her face. I also added a bright yellow background to contrast with her blue bows. In total, this painting took about 10 hours.
