Dear Panel members:
Spirit and school pride: how does it affect student life and how can these events be made possible right after a deadly virus? That's exactly what I intend to figure out, I want to plan events and coordinate a club to make students excited for our peers and show some pride for our teams increasing student happiness and willingness to learn. I want to learn how to plan events and collect data so student events like prep rallies, spirit weeks, fundraisers, etc. That Will boost student participation in and out of the classroom. Some of my ideas for this project are homecoming week for our school's fall/winter teams while also showcasing clubs and art from other groups of students. We will have a themed week and hallway decorating as well as a prep rally in which all students are included and mini-games will be played to honor and show off all students' talents. I also want to do a holiday week with door decorating, dressing up, and a winter wonderland fundraiser. By the end of all this in the winter, I will send advisories a google form to give their students where they can anonymously give their opinion on these events and what we could've done better/what they liked. So I may be able to execute another spirit week for spring sports later on in the year. A few of my questions for my project are if this will increase the sports teams' games attendance and if we will see more pride in our school.
Since I was little growing up I Always dreamed of being an event planner no matter at parties or weddings or even graduations. I love seeing people happy and I love when things I plan fall into place, I also loved seeing people get pumped up and dressed up at school for games and homecoming weeks and it seemed like the more prideful we were the better the sports teams were. So I combined those two things planning and school spirit especially since it's the senior year i thought might as well make it pop. This means a lot to me because I love seeing people happy and get excited, I love to see freshmen get excited over a school dance and it reminds me of my first days in my old school when I walked in and the halls were decorated and I was amazed I have never seen anything like it. I want my peers and underclassman to be able to enjoy that same feeling, walking in and getting excited yelling at prep rallies and dance parties, it would make me so happy to see kids get into the spirit of what the movies and tv shows show what highschool is. I want to make them feel special. This will make me very busy but I'm open to a challenge my hours will be planning and decorating and shopping for three of my favorite things I will be able to order stuff for these events decorate and plan for all of my hours.
I've never planned events like this, the closest thing I've ever done to planning is asking my friends to the sleepover and making plans. I will also grow for the fact that I have to include other people in these plans and take their ideas; as a micromanager that's pretty hard. On another note this is a tricky project while it might go tremendous and participation will skyrocket people might not participate and it might make students less excited for school because they have never experienced it, it might be scary for them or not interest them. The outcome I'm looking for is for students to have a smile on their faces and for students to really look forward to something in their classes and advisories and work together with their peers as a team for outfit choice and hallway decor choice and Put something together as a team is heartwarming.
Kelly tucker is my mentor, working in the business office at our school. I choose Mrs.Tucker as my mentor because she is a hardworking member of our school community and knows everything about ruhs like the back of her hand. she also oversees most school events and runs the national honor society. She has worked at Randolph union high for over eight years, fundraising keeping books, and throwing events. herself for a long time. Before covid Mrs.Tucker ran a Halloween fundraiser maze, national honor society prep rallies, and much more.
My timeline goes all the way through the spring even though ill gets my hours by end of December. With spirit week planning shopping and decorating in November as well as the prep rally ill get over 15 hours and with my winter wonderland week (winter-themed spirit week) ill get over another 15 which doesn't include my fundraisers or when my club meets on x-block once or twice every two weeks.Â
Thank you for your time and commitment to my senior project.
Sincerely,
Layla Marie Grimaldi
