This assignment was the first part of the ongoing series on our capstone paper. It was an authentic assessment in which we researched different sources for our papers. We did 9 sources on this assignment and received a 90. We decided to split the work, with each of us doing 3 different sources on various topics aligned with our research questions. What were the short and long-term effects of using crutches? What injuries can cause people to use crutches? Using some of these questions as a driving force behind our research our 9 sources were a key start in intoducing our project. Throughout the process, countless articles were unable to be accessed to combat that many of other articles we were able to use other college resources.
This was an assessment given to us in the form of an 80-minute writing task where we were given 3 different articles, and we had to write about fracking. Fracking is a way of drilling for fossil fuels. For this assignment, I got an 88. In this assignment, I did not do as well as I could've partly due to my lack of writing ability and the timing on the essay. I was able to write mostly about the harmful effects fracking has on the environment and tried to pinpoint the main harmful effect it has. Mainly the chemicals it can release into water pipelines. I talked about a small benefit that fracking has, such as creating jobs, but due to the industry being dominated by a single company, the benefits are subjugated by the working conditions.
This was our second writing task where we were given 3 different articles about mental health and we had to write about them. Each article followed a new theme about mental health, and each theme was a central point in my 3 body paragraphs. One was about child development and how it can affect how a child's cognitive process can be affected depending on how they were raised. Another was on environmental effects and how being raised can lead to an increase in how you perceive things throughout life. Most important was parental awareness and how recognizing abnormalities in your children can really help child growth and development.
This presentation was an authentic assessment grade where for our mid-year panels, we had to introduce and convince a panel that our capstone was feasible. For our capstone, we are developing a new crutch to help users who experience challenges during their time on crutches. For our presentation, we revoced a grade of 97, which was pretty good for us. Our main focal point for this assignment was to convey the need for our product and to show the feasibility that our product could be made. Throughout the process, we used the sources from our literature review, and we also used our survey. We used a design matrix we did on existing products to also help show that what we were making would be different from what is already currently on the market.
