Girls Who Code 20-21
@ Orange Prep
@ Orange Prep
We are Girls Who Code at Orange Preparatory Academy consisting of eight conscientious ladies. Some of us are beginning coders, and others have had a few coding experiences. We are involved in other clubs in our school, such as the Zone, Drama and Chorus.
Our Impact Project:
One of our members brought to our attention that sea turtles are dying from plastic straws in the ocean. Therefore, we decided that the ocean environment would be our focus. Check out the article below:
By 2050, the ocean will have more plastic in than fish!
100,000 marine creatures a year die from plastic entanglement and these are the ones found.
Approximately 1 million sea birds also die from plastic.
Humans are also being affected from plastic because we ingest the contaminated fish and mammals.
Ban Plastic Straws
Reduce Plastic Use
Using Paper Straws or Metal Straws
My name is Bardolove Barais. I am 13 years old. I've done a little coding before, but I want to learn more. My favorite subject is math and I also like to play volleyball even though I'm not that good at it. I feel like it's going to be a fun year with Ms. Phipps. I'm from Rosa Parks. I want to be an Actress and singer when I grow up because I feel happy when I sing and act. I am also loving, caring, and kind. Yeah. : )
My name is Leila Pierre Louis, I'm 13 years old, and this will be my second experience coding. I have done coding in different places just for fun. I like to listen to music, draw and watch anime. I also enjoy playing volleyball with my friends, acting, trying new things and eating :)
I plan on attending college after high school and maybe becoming a surgeon if things go as planned.
My name is Oluwafumilayo Odeyemi. I'm 14 years old and this is my first time learning how to code. I’m really hoping this year that I can learn more about coding and get closer to my peers in coding. I’m compassionate, cooperative and friendly but I still wish I could be organized and have a better memory.
My name is Marnissa Bariffe and I am 13 years old. This is my first time joining girls who code and I like it so far. I hope to learn how to code and to keep joining and save the world with my coding .
Hey, well Hi! Welcome to Girls Who Code. I'm Naomie. I'm basically new to this and I'm just getting used to coding. Hello, I'm Nehemie. Although I don ´t know about coding , I'm always up for new experiences. I love to go beyond my level. For example I´m 14 and I´ḿ learning calculus by myself. I'm learning how to speak Japanese and Korean. I love to exercise, write stories, and I love helping others.
My name is Jessica Scott and I'm 13 years old. This is my first year joining Girls Who Code, but I have coded on my own time in the past. I hope to learn a lot more about coding and to make new friends who share the same passion of coding.
I joined Girls Who Code because I was always fascinated with the basics of coding and the language of computers. I started not knowing much and I hope that by the end of the year, I'll learn more and do more projects that make a difference, no matter the size.
On our project we will be doing a research project based on saving all sea animals from the dangers from plastic straws.
