October is here!
*We are enjoying our adventures in math, reading and IG with our students. Our goal is to complete the novel studies for our current books and begin new ones in the coming days. Thank you for all of your support at home with nightly reading (3-5 grades). This is helpful as we engage in discussions each day.

In reading, 2nd graders will read the classic story, Sarah Plain and Tall by Patricia MacLachlan and will continue focusing on characters, plot and setting.
In 2nd grade math, students will work in groups as they solve problems as a team on a virtual whiteboard. These problems are challenging and tie directly into the math units the students are learning in their classrooms.
In reading, 3rd graders will delve into Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies. This realistic fiction book is sure to delight our readers with its fun and engaging plot. We will continue to follow the characters, setting and plot throughout our reading. 3rd graders will be learning a new way to approach reading a novel by....Reciprocal teaching. This is a reading comprehension strategy that allows the teacher and students take turns leading a dialogue about a text using four key strategies: predicting what might happen next, clarifying difficult parts of the text, asking questions about the text, and summarizing the main ideas. This should be a an awesome experience!
In third grade math, students will participate in projects and STEM activities aligned with what they are learning in class. We will learn the value of perseverance when solving a problem and that some math takes deep thinking and teamwork!
In reading, 4th graders will dive into Frindle, by Andrew Clements. This realistic fiction book will follow a clever boy who always has a way with words. 4th graders will be learning a new way to approach reading a novel by....Reciprocal teaching. In 4th grade math, we will work on projects and STEM activities that compliment what students are learning in class. Students will learn that it takes time to solve complex problems! They will also learn that the STRUGGLE is part of the LEARNING as they work in groups to solve problems on vertical whiteboards.
The fifth graders will start the year by reading Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell. 4th graders will be learning a new way to approach reading a novel by....Reciprocal teaching. In math, we will complete projects and STEM activities. Students will learn to work together, struggle through the understanding, show all of their work, and find solutions to complex problems!
1st Grade Enrichment
In 1st grade reading, students will explore The Boxcar Children. We will be focusing on Characters and following them on their journey throughout the book.
In 1st grade math, students will work together to solve problems through projects, math tasks, and STEM activities. I enjoy observing students as they work through each problem and participate in thoughtful math talks!
All of our K-2 students will work on project based activities with the AIG teacher in their classroom. Kindergarten whole class enrichment will start in the second semester, while first and second graders will start in September. Mrs. Sensbach will see classes two or three times a week on a monthly basis.
IG students will work with logic puzzles and games to foster their visual/spatial problem solving skills. These activities will help students strategize as they collaborate with peers.
