Hello! My name is Julie Gillen and I am so excited to be your child's first grade teacher for the remainder of the 2025-2026 school year! I was born and raised in Bergen County. I have a sister and a brother-in-law who recently had their first child, my nephew, Henry! My equivalent of that is my dog, Finnigan, who is my pride and joy. I also enjoy travelling, especially to Aruba with my family. I graduated from The College of New Jersey in 2024, and I am certified in pre-school through sixth grade. I am also CPR/AED certified which I hope can bring you peace of mind as a parent/guardian.
When students arrive in the mornings the routine is that I will play music and set a ten minute timer, and that is the time that the students have to unpack, hand in homework, chat with friends, etc. Additionally, I am a very big fan of music, and I play it constantly in my classroom. We are a two rule classroom; be respectful and try your best. Homework will be given Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights. The FUNdations packet will go home at the beginning of the week, to be returned to me on Fridays. Nightly, there will be math homework, and students must read for a minimum fifteen minutes, preferably with an adult, although I know that is not always possible!
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions, comments, or concerns!
Warmly,
Ms. Gillen
