Spanish 1
This course is an introduction to the Spanish language and the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries. Students will develop basic communication skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Emphasis is placed on vocabulary in context, real-life communication, and cultural understanding. Students will demonstrate their ability in Spanish by practicing the three modes of communication in the target language:

• Interpretive: understanding what they hear and read
  
  

• Interpersonal: responding spontaneously to spoken or written communication
  
  

• Presentational: presenting spoken or written information to an audience
  
  

No prior knowledge of Spanish is required.
