Welcome to English I
with Mrs. Willis
2024-2025
H-3
It is with great pleasure that I am once again teaching OPHS freshmen English classes. I spent 25 years with Oak Park, teaching 9th, 10th, and 12th grade English. I am looking forward to another year of teaching and learning with my 9th grade students.
Since I am teaching at 40% of full time, I will only be at school on 2,4,6 days. I will, though, check my email everyday, so I will see your messages.
The best advice I can give my students: You must read! Come to class prepared to talk about the literature--that is what makes the class interesting... YOUR input. Complete all of your assignments. Missed assignments destroy the grade! Turn in something, even if you have not finished it. Some points are better than none.
Your primary tasks as students are to: bring your books, pens, and college-ruled paper and chrome book, complete the readings and the homework, remember to turn in all assignments, participate in class, be prepared for quizzes and tests, and be ready to grow as a writer.
Please talk to me when you need help. I am here to help YOU and I'm happy to do.
This year we will read some selected short stories, poetry, articles and these required books:
1st Semester: The Outsiders Of Mice and Men Fahrenheit 451
2nd Semester: The Crossover To Kill a Mockingbird Romeo and Juliet
