CDPH is following the same guidelines and requires districts to follow its published safety measures for DK-12 schools:
Indoors - Masks are strongly recommended for all students and staff while on campus.
Outdoors - Masks are optional.
Know which Masks Provide the Best Protection Against COVID-19:
Most Effective - N95 (also best for wildfire smoke)
More Effective - KF94, KN95, Double Mask, Fitted Surgical Mask
Effective - Surgical Mask (all schools have extra surgical masks for students and staff)
Least Effective - Fabric mask with three or more cloth layers
NOTE: NO VALVED MASKS OR GAITERS ARE PERMITTED.
No matter what kind of mask you wear, check the fit and eliminate gaps above the nose or on the sides. Gaps will significantly reduce the effectiveness of any mask.
Review “Get the Most out of Masking” from the CDPH for more recommendations.
An effective mask has both a good fit and good filtration. A well-fitted mask has no gaps between the face and mask, such as above the nose or at the sides. With gaps, air that has virus particles can easily leak in or out around the sides of the mask.
Passive at-home screening: Students and staff are strongly recommended to perform daily health and screening checks at home before arriving on campus, including ensuring a temperature below 99.5 and no cold, cough, or flu-like symptoms. Please do not send your child to school if they are exhibiting any COVID like symptoms.
Self-isolate and test as soon as possible to determine infection status. Knowing one is infected early during self-isolation enables (a) earlier access to treatment options, if indicated (especially for those that may be at risk for severe illness), and (b) notification of exposed persons (close contacts) who may also benefit by knowing if they are infected.
For symptomatic persons who have tested positive within the previous 90 days, using an antigen test is preferred.
Remain in isolation while waiting for testing results. If not tested, they should continue isolating for 10 days after the day of symptom onset, and if they cannot isolate, should wear a well-fitting mask for 10 days.
Consider continuing self-isolation and retesting with an antigen or PCR test in 1-2 days if testing negative with an antigen test, particularly if tested during the first 1-2 days of symptoms.
Continue to self-isolate if test result is positive, follow recommended actions below, and contact your healthcare provider about available treatments if symptoms are severe or they are at high risk for serious disease or if they have any questions concerning their care.
