How can my child bring up their grades?

Parents,

I am so thankful I have guardians who are committed to their child's learning as much as I am! Often, the biggest question I get asked is "how can my child improve his or her grade?"

Instead of leaning towards bonus points, I encourage you to push the importance of making sure your child is doing all he or she can to get good grades in the first place and not rely on bonus points to "pull up" their grade. Embedding good study skills, encouraging participation during class, and enforcing great homework habits are a great start! Junior High is an age where students begin to learn to become independent, especially in schoolwork. Having them take responsibility for their own work not only gives them a greater satisfaction in their own work and achievements, it is also a great life skill to have. After all, they are our future leaders!

It is also a great disappointment to hear from parents or students at the very end of the 9 weeks on their concerns about grades. Grades should be kept up with regularly. My only advice by that point is to do as best as possible on the next nine weeks. Some units and tests are simply harder than others, especially written assignments. I try to give as much notice ahead of time on all upcoming assignments and tests, emphasizing the harder ones. This way, students can have ample time to prepare. All homework and tests are posted below in the homework agenda. This are updated daily.

If you are still concerned with your child's grades, please do not hesitate to contact me. I want your child to succeed as much as you do and will do all that I can to work with you to ensure that he or she does their best!

Thanks,

Amy Davis

Google Classroom Guardians and Contact Info

Parents,

By being added to your child's google classroom, you are able to see what assignments are posted and which have been turned in. This helps in being sure your child is submitting assignments on time and not receiving poor marks. You can also check the homework agenda to see which lesson we are currently on and what was assigned for homework. This same agenda will tell you any quizzes that may be coming up to help you better prepare your child. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email me!
