Kangaroo Class Objectives:
Welcome to Kindergarten! My name is Mrs. Lalitha, and I will be your child’s Kindergarten teacher for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year. My goal is to teach your child the standards for kindergarten and ensure they are prepared and ready for FIRST GRADE, making the transition from Kindergarten to First Grade as smooth and easy as possible.
MOTOR SKILLS: From day one, we strengthen our motor skills (gluing, cutting, and writing). We participate in various activities that help strengthen those skills so that one day they can complete all of those tasks THEMSELVES.
READING: Literacy is my absolute favorite subject; it’s something we do a lot in kindergarten. We do everything from large group reading, small group reading, independent reading, and MORE. Students will not only be reading by the end of kindergarten, but they will be able to retell the story through reading comprehension.
SIGHT WORDS + PHONICS: Sight words/high-frequency words. Various activities like: “SMACK!” and mystery word balloon POP! Invisible words, worksheets (paint the word and cut and paste), word hunts, computer time, and MORE will all be used to build your child’s vocabulary and strengthen their reading skills.
MATHEMATICS: Math is fun! Yes, we do worksheets in class, but those worksheets aren’t just completed with a pencil – we also use paint, bingo daubers, playdough, and much more. Standards taught and introduced: Greater, less than, or equal to number recognition, measurements, adding and subtracting, money (coin recognition), AND even telling time!
CRAFTS, FUN, AND MORE: Learning should be fun. To accomplish this for your student, we do LOTS of crafts and STEM projects, including YOGA to help us relax, regroup on busy days, do fun science experiments, and even learn about HISTORY! Trying new things and learning new things can be scary and might not always be easy, but with my teaching methods, I promise your child will THRIVE in Kindergarten at Open Door Preschool.
