On Wednesday, January 23rd we will be kicking off our first ever One Book One School here at Hatch!
Families can pick up their copy of Wishtree at Literacy Night/Coffee House on Wednesday, January 23rd @ 6 - 7 PM. If you can't make it, your book will be sent home with your child on Thursday.
Then over the course of the next month, everyone at Hatch will be reading the same book! We will have great discussions about friendship and acceptance!
Please come back to this site to find discussion questions and a schedule for reading. I know this is a great book and you'll probably want to rush right through it, but please hold your horses and read along with everyone.
Katherine Applegate is the author of The One and Only Ivan, winner of the Newbery Medal. Crenshaw spent over twenty weeks on the New York Times bestseller list, and her first middle-grade stand-alone, Home of the Brave continues on state reading lists, summer reading lists, and class reading lists. Katherine Applegate lives in Tiburon, California, with her family.
Red is an oak tree who is many rings old. Red is the neighborhood “wishtree”—people write their wishes on pieces of cloth and tie them to Red’s branches. Along with a crow named Bongo and other animals who seek refuge in Red’s hollows, this wishtree watches over the neighborhood. You might say Red has seen it all. Until a new family moves in. Not everyone is welcoming, and Red’s experiences as a wishtree are more important than ever. Funny, deep, warm, and nuanced, wishtree is Newbery Medalist and New York Times– bestselling author Katherine Applegate at her very best—writing from the heart, and from a completely unexpected point of view.
