In this video from Vic Firth's Percussion 101 Series, they demonstrate how to play the ruffs rudiment on snare drum.
The ruff is like a flam, except the grace note is a double bounce. Practice this rudiment slowly for excellent technique.
No need to worry about 4-stroke ruffs at this time. This will be covered much later in middle school or high school band.
