Hi, I'm Mrs. Schrems!  I grew up in River Forest and now live in Riverside with my husband and two kids.  Declan is in 5th grade and Margot is in 3rd.  I enjoy taking walks around the neighborhood, gardening, and raising chickens!  This year will be my 24th year at Longfellow; I love this community!  While there have been many changes over the years, the best part of teaching remains constant: an excitement and love for learning, on my part and my students'.  Every year brings new possibilities. 

This year I'm excited about our new math curriculum!  It is very hands-on.  I also appreciate the new language arts curriculum we started last year, now that I have a year of it under my belt. I am a big believer in the need for phonemic awareness and phonics, as well as building background knowledge and vocabulary. I hope we all learn and have fun along the way with our new materials.
