General Information

• Due to allergies at Longfellow, all snacks must adhere to the 2025-2026 snack list (26/27 coming soon!). Recommended snacks include fresh or dried fruits & veggies, apple squeezers, fruit snacks, plain/salter popcorn, and pretzels. PLEASE avoid snacks that spill easily and are sticky, like fruit cups. If you have any questions about snacks, just ask! All snacks must be nut-free. We have allergies to sesame, egg, fish, and nuts in our room this year.

• Our class has P.E. on (days coming soon). Students MUST have gym shoes in order to participate.

• Our class has library on (days coming soon). Students must return their books in order to check out new ones. You are welcome to return books any day of the week.

• Want to order books for your child? Scholastic has affordable books and your orders will help us get free books for our classroom! Go to https://clubs.scholastic.com/home and use code PN8CR to connect to our classroom.

• Our class has lockers! Please be sure your child has a set of spare clothes they can keep in their locker at all times. Consider sending in a spare set of sneakers they can keep in their locker as well so they can change on muddy or snowy days and are always prepared for P.E.

• Please send in a water bottle for your child to use at school so they can get water throughout the day. They should be able to open and close it independently and "spillproof" water bottles are ideal.

Technology

Kindergarten students will receive an iPad to use for school. The iPad will stay at school and will be used minimally and intentionally to support learning. Here are ways we use our iPads:

• Seesaw - Seesaw lets students access digital activities where they can listen to directions and use tools to craft responses. It also lets them document physical work and record their voices. This then builds a portfolio that is shared with caregivers.

• eBooks - Several eBook tools let kids read books at their level AND listen to high-quality texts they cannot yet read independently, which is great for research projects!

• Individualized practice - We have several apps that let us assign individualized activities to students so they can work at their own pace on reading or math skills.

It is important to me that students understand that these iPads are tools not toys. We never use them for fun or during times where play is an option.

Birthdays

We LOVE celebrating birthdays in our class! If your child's birthday falls during the school year, we will celebrate as close to their birthday as possible. If your child's birthday is over the summer, we will celebrate in the last few weeks of school with each family picking one day to celebrate. 

These are our traditions:

• During morning meeting we will make birthday wishes for your child.

• Your child will get a birthday sticker from me and a birthday book & ribbon from the office.

• You are invited to come in to read to the class and we will do our birthday cheer.

• Your child will pick a coloring sheet that I will print for the class.

• Your child picks music to listen to while everyone colors and chats!

We cannot have any food brought in and I ask that you not bring in trinkets or toys. If you'd like to bring in stickers, go for it!
