Behavior Management
Behavior Management
Behavior is communication.
Instead of simply stopping "bad" behaviors and giving time outs, we help the child understand why a behavior was not okay. And equally as important, we teach a more appropriate and/or safe way to get what they were wanting or needing. This can look different for each situation. But we want kids to be working toward independent, pro-social, safe problem solving skills.
Incident Reports
If a child is injured or injures another child, families will get two copies of a report sent home detailing the incident. Please send one copy back with a signature. Families will also get a phone call or message letting them know about the report.
Frequent Behavior Challenges
If a child has frequent, repeated behaviors that are unsafe, the teacher and family will meet to set up a plan to help the student succeed at school. There are a lot of accommodations and supports that can be put in place like a reward system, classroom jobs, more visual cues, etc.
Tantrums are Normal!
Big feelings are a normal part of being human, especially as a 3-5 year old. Sometimes that looks like a tantrum. A big part of preschool is learning healthy coping skills so that kids will be able to self-regulate. Check out the Social Emotional page for some resources on this!
