Application Process
In order to submit your application, please prepare the following:
Contact information (name, school, address, etc.)
Current CV (no longer than 2-3 pages, saved as .pdf)
Research Poster: Title & Abstract (100 words or less)
Answers to these essay questions (text boxes will be provided):
What makes learning chemistry challenging for students? Please support your response by discussing one or two specific examples from your own experiences as a student and/or teacher? (500 words or less)
What is chemistry education research (CER), as you understand it at this point in your graduate studies or post-doc appointment? (250 words or less)
What do you hope to learn as a CER graduate student or post-doctoral researcher? (250 words or less)
What do you see yourself doing in chemistry education 10 years from now? (250 words or less)
What particular activities justify favorable consideration of you as a participant and contributor to this conference? Please include a short discussion of what you hope to learn at this conference that is different from your hope to learn in your own graduate program or post-doctoral appointment. (250 words or less)
Priority will be given to applications received by April 15, 2019.

Poster Information
There will be four poster sessions, with each graduate student or post-doc presenting once.
Poster boards can accommodate posters up to 4' x 4'.
Push pins will be provided.
Internet Access
Miami University offers guest wireless access across campus.
No login ID or password is required for guest access.
Directions for logging into the wireless are available when you open your web browser.
Transportation
Airport Transportation from/to CVG
CVG (the Cincinnati airport, located across the Ohio river in Covington, KY) is one hour from Miami.
Miami CER students will meet you in Terminal 3 baggage claim.
A bus will transport you to Miami on Thursday, July 18.
The bus will depart Miami on Sunday, July 21 at 12:00 pm.
Airport Transportation from/to DAY
DAY (the Dayton, OH airport) is one hour from Miami.
Miami CER students will meet passengers at baggage claim.
A bus will transport you to Miami on Thursday, July 18.
The bus will depart Miami on Sunday, July 21 at 12:00 pm.

Hughes Laboratories is building #71 and located at the corner of High Street and Patterson Drive. The Miami Inn is building #94.
Lodging

Faculty, post-docs, and graduate students will be housed in the air-conditioned Miami residence hall known as the Miami Inn (building #94).
Faculty will have single rooms. Post-docs and grad students will be assigned a roommate.
Pillow, sheets, blanket, towel, washcloth, soap, and a small cup will be provided.
The Miami Inn is a 5-10 minute walk from the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry in Hughes Laboratories (building #71.)
Parking permits will be provided for students from nearby universities who drive to the conference.
Check-in time is Thursday, July 18 from 3-5pm.
Check-out time is Sunday, July 21 before breakfast.
There is also the opportunity for groups of students to go hiking, play disc golf, softball, cornhole, etc. If you want to do these, be sure to pack your hiking shoes, bring your softball glove, etc.
Dining
Meals will be provided from Thursday dinner through Sunday lunch, along with plentiful snacks.
Dinner on Saturday evening is on your own "uptown" in Oxford. There are a wide variety of restaurants to fit every budget and every taste.
A map of Oxford uptown restaurants will be provided at the conference.

round-trip ticket to CVG or DAY airport
transportation from CVG/DAY airport to/from Miami
lodging in Miami residence hall (air conditioned suite, 2 bedrooms, 1 bath)
