A pledge towards open is a way for you to tell your students you are committed to seeking ways to open up your course and your teaching practice.
What is one thing you can do today to start the journey forward?
There are lots of ways you can make your courses more affordable, more accessible, and more engaging for students. One of these ways is through the use of open educational resources (OER). Making your course more open might seem like a huge job, but the good news is, you don't have to do it all at once, or all alone! There are lots of ways you can help move towards open by making small changes to your course.
Choose readings from the Library catalogue
Ask your librarian to reserve copies of your course textbook
Choose resources that "unbundle" subscriptions from the e-text
Work with the OE Lab to make a custom course OER
Plan assessments that don't use online "homework" systems
Make the print textbook optional and don't draw assessment questions from that resource
Embrace student-friendly course policies - ask the TLC for help
OER are a unique way to improve student access, performance, and satisfaction in higher education. They can provide students in equity-seeking groups with the means to connect with their education and their university community.
