Other Learning Opportunities

Be kind to yourself. Give yourself time to learn!!!

Remember that coding is a journey that takes work and time. At times it is frustrating - when you can’t solve a problem. At times it is exhilarating - when you solve a problem that you have been working on for some time.

We find that talking about emotions in coding (and math) normalizes them, so learners understand that emotions are part of the process.

Teaching & Learning with Technology: What's Next?

Our online EdTech conference has numerous sessions about teaching coding in the Ontario context. In addition to general EdTech, we have introductions to Code.org, ScratchJR, Scratch, Coding Quest and Twine. Iain Brodie is leading a session on exploring math concepts in Scratch. Diane Tepylo is facilitating a session on best practices for teaching and assessing coding. See all of our offerings and join us next week.

Extended Coding Workshops: August 23- 27

Learning to code requires some practice. With this in mind, we have designed workshops that provide time to practice and explore, with lots of supportive facilitators.

Each workshop series will be 4.5 hours spread over 2-3 days to give you time to practice and get help when you run into an issue. We will have 1 facilitator for every 4-6 participants (graduates of our “coding for teachers” courses), so there will be lots of support.

Teaching Math & Coding - Elementary

Are you looking for a longer, more in depth learning experience into coding- especially designed for Ontario teachers. Diane Tepylo is teaching an 8 week course (2 hours per week) this fall through Ontario Tech's Continuing Learning department. Teachers will create and remix code to investigate mathematical properties and develop strategies to support students learning to code.

Teachers meeting the course learning outcomes will receive a micro-credential: Teaching Math & Coding - Elementary
