Back in 2012, I received an invitation to attend the Asian Science Camp, an experience that left a lasting impression on me. At the age of 19, I penned a note to my friend Olga, expressing my thoughts on the purpose of life. Surprisingly, the note slipped from my memory until 12 years later when Olga sent me a picture of it.
The message in the note resonated with the essence of learning and interconnectedness. It emphasized the idea that age is irrelevant when it comes to gaining knowledge; the learning process is mutual. The note encouraged a mindset of humility, acknowledging that there will always be individuals both superior and inferior to us. The key, it suggested, is to recognize our own value, continually strive to expand our understanding, and share our knowledge to contribute to building a smarter and more enlightened world.
In the years following the transmission of that heartfelt message to my friend, my life embarked on a fascinating journey. I traversed from Vietnam to the United States, encountering a myriad of individuals along the way. Among them, there were those whose expectations were not met, leading me to a profound realization about the importance of compassion.
Through these diverse encounters, I came to understand that everyone is on a unique trajectory of personal development. The disappointment experienced by some individuals served as a reminder to approach others with empathy and understanding. Life's journey, it seemed, had granted me the wisdom to recognize and appreciate the varied stages of growth and learning in each person, fostering a deepened sense of compassion for the diverse paths we all navigate.
