about the bridge

The Island school bridge

The Island School Bridge concept is an extension of the Thrive Programme that aspires to ensure all students can be the best they can be. The Bridge is specifically focused on preparing our Years 11 to 13 students for their final years at the school and for life after they graduate Island School. It is also designed to ensure they remain forever connected to the school.

There are 6 key components to the Bridge.

Island School is committed to helping each student develop, evaluate and pursue their personal career goals. Via the process of career counselling and the Higher Education and career guidance programmes run at Island School, students acquire the knowledge and skills to make lifelong career decisions; with the choice of a higher education institution being the first step.

The main focus of this is the Thrive Programme.

‘A diverse community where all students Thrive’.

At Island School we aim to embrace wellbeing which is at the core of our Thrive programme. We distinguish wellbeing through our four lenses including social, emotional, physical and cognitive wellbeing. This approach to wellbeing ensures we deliver a comprehensive programme for the protection and safety of young people.

The Island Schools Values are at the heart of everything we do. Through experiential learning in Creativity, Activity and Service we foster the skills and behaviours we need to become healthy, productive and socially responsible members of our local and global community.

This section helps students to discover a broad range of opportunities that can further develop their passions and competencies. It includes information about internships, summer programmes, online courses as well as inspirational talks and lectures.

The mentorship programmes will be launched in the 2021/22 academic year. It will include a peer mentoring programme organised by the school counselling team. Look out next year also for the super curriculum mentor programme that aims to provide mentor support for high reach university courses.

The ESF Connect platform and the Island School Alumni will be integrated within the Bridge programme to ensure that Island School graduates remain connected to the school.
