A while back, a friend asked me to name a few of my favorite movies. To my chagrin, I drew a blank. I had plenty of favorites floating around in the back of my mind, but under pressure, none of them bubbled up to the surface. What to do? What to do.

To avoid ever reliving that embarrassing moment, I decided to compile a list—a go-to reference in case I ever found myself in a similar situation. I spent a few days reflecting and quickly put together a collection of about 20 favorites. But as more cinematic gems came to mind, the list grew. Then it evolved. And eventually, it became a ranked, curated compilation. (Yes, I admit, I might’ve gone a bit overboard!)

These rankings are based on my personal 5-star system, thoughtfully balanced with aggregated scores from sources like IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes. And because I’m constantly remembering more great films, this list is always a work in progress.
