The Storytime Project is a collection of online audio recordings for students to listen to and read along with books from the Fletcher library. Readers can easily access this growing collection of audio recordings by scanning the QR code inside the books with any smartphone.
Here are a few ways you can make use of this collection:
Borrow a listed book from the Fletcher Library. At home use your smartphone to scan the QR code on the inside cover, or click the title on this website to stream the book recording. Starting from the title page, listen to the storyteller while following along with the book's text.
Use it like an audiobook. Listen from anywhere to the story by itself, just like an audiobook. Listening is an important language skill just like reading! Listening first to the recording multiple times should make it easier to follow along in the book.
Add some books to your personal collection. We have tried to link all the available titles on this site to Fletcher's AmazonSmile page. Use Fletcher's AmazonSmile page to support the school while shopping on Amazon. Feel free to stick the QR code in your copy to stream the book's recording with your smartphone.
The Storytime Project was created especially for the students of Fletcher Elementary - but anyone is welcome to use and contribute to this site.
If you are interested in helping with this project, we can use the following:
Record yourself reading a library book aloud using your cell phone and we can add it to the online collection
Expand Fletcher Library's book collection by donating directly from one of their Amazon Wishlists:
If you find any link errors or you have ideas to improve the site, please let us know.
Reading for pleasure can boost language development and literacy in readers of all ages (Krashen, 2020), but can be especially difficult in a new language. These recordings were made to be listened to while following along with the book's text to help readers with pronunciation, comprehension and decoding. The layering of audio and visual storytelling is designed to make story time in these two target languages more comprehensible, interesting and accessible for young readers.
