Welcome to Social Studies!

Students will be learning all about Michigan history. Students will be using their McGraw Hill Michigan Social Studies textbook.


Michigan State Symbol Project


  1. Pick a Michigan state symbol (robin, brook trout, apple blossom, mastodon, whitetail deer, Isle Royale greenstone, painted turtle, Kalkaska soil, Petoskey stone, dwarf lake iris, white pine).

  2. Create a 3D version of that symbol using materials and items of your choice.

  3. Write two paragraphs about your state symbol (neatly handwritten on loose leaf or typed)

    1. Paragraph 1: Give three reasons why you chose it (3-4 sentences).

    2. Paragraph 2: Use provided websites to find four interesting facts about your symbol. Make sure to write them in your own words. (4-5 sentences).

  4. Make sure to check for correct spelling and grammar.

  5. Turn in no later than October 21.

All research will be done in class. Students will also create an outline of both paragraphs at school.
