PUMPKIN TO JACK-O-LANTERN

We read the story of Little Boo and learned the life cycle of a pumpkin as well as the parts of a pumpkin. By turning our pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns we were able to use our five senses to really learn about the pumpkin and how it grows. We had so much fun.

WORMS!!

Since the red wiggle worms love darkness it's not easy to see them hard at work. Kindergarten decided to create this beautiful mural to help everyone understand the world and life of the red wiggle worms that make vermicompost. They are beyond proud of their work and so am I. It is still a work in progress but it looks amazing so far.

The kids were so eager and excited to show Mrs. Stevens the Assistant Superintendent our red wiggle worms as well as share all their knowledge of vermicompost with her.

WORMS!!

Our Compost Worms or Red Wiggle Worms arrived yesterday! As part of our Green Initiative Kindergarten along with Prek-3 and Pre-k4 will be taking care of compost worms. Not only do they give us nutritious compost or dirt they also help us to recycle. They love to eat fruits, vegetables, newspaper, cardboard, egg shells...the list goes on and on! The worms will be living with us until the end of the school year.

Kindergarten began our unit on apples by celebrating Johnny Appleseed's birthday. We learned the sequential order of how to grow an apple tree. We also learned the parts of an apple. Another way we celebrated was by planting apple seeds that are now growing in our green house. To end the lesson we ate APPLE PIE!!
