As is the case at most schools these days, at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart we have several children with allergies. In more severe cases, some children are diagnosed with anaphylaxis and require adrenaline if exposed to certain foods or pollens.
While we do not have bans on particular foods at OLSH, we do like to make parents aware of children in your child's class who are anaphylactic. In our Prep class we have one child who is anaphylactic to peanuts, soybeans and hazelnuts.
While we have a 'no sharing' protocol around recess and lunch food we also encourage you to be mindful about what you put into your child's lunchbox and remind your child that their lunch is only for them to eat. We also have times when families might bring birthday cakes or individual cakes or treats to share with their child's class and its always good to be aware of any allergies that are present and to let the teacher know if any of the above ingredients are in the food. The classroom teacher will often have some seperate treats on hand that an anaphylactic child can have instead.
Thanks for your understanding and vigilance around this.
