Grade 1

About Me

My name is Grace Laity and I am very excited to be teaching Grade One this year. Last year was my first year teaching at OLSH and I am excited to be teaching in the Junior Unit again!

OLSH was my primary school, so it is exciting to be back where I went to school. I have a dog named Bentley and he can be very cheeky!

I am looking forward to this year and seeing everyone learn and getting to know each and every one of you.

Literacy

Below is an outline on Structured Literacy and how it runs in the classroom daily. This is a whole school based approach that has been implemented in every class room.

Maths

We continue to use the Stepping Stones Mathematics program this year. Programs such as Mathletics and Splashlearn will be used on occasion as well.

Home Learning

Information has been sent out about home learning for 2024. Students are expected to read with an adult every night and have their diary signed.

Students are also sent home with spelling homework on a Monday. This will follow our spelling rule for the week that we focus on in class. Students are to choose from a range of activities and complete at least 3 nights of spelling each week. Spelling activities are stuck into thier books but are also listed below.
