WEEKLY GSV SPORT:
Term 2 is always a popular term for sport with Netball and Hockey being offered as the GSV Weekly Sports. There were over 214 girls across all Netball and Hockey teams ranging from girls who had never played before to girls who have played for years on end, and no matter what their skill level was, every single week the enthusiasm and passion that every player demonstrated was inspiring. The sportswomen-ship that every player has towards their oppositions, umpires, coaches and their team mates is something that they should all be proud of even if their team didn’t win every week.
Despite an early finish to Term 2 GSV Sport it was still a fantastic Term of Sport filled with an abundance of wins! We had 41 wins across all teams for 4 and a half weeks of GSV, meaning we won more than 50% of all games played. What an amazing effort by all of our Term 2 Weekly Sport competitors. A special mention to our A Grade Senior Netball team who were undefeated all term and we can safely assume, they would have continued to dominate their way through finals.
Congratulations to everyone who was involved in a GSV Weekly Sport in Term 2, hopefully Term 3 will bring a normal, un-interrupted Term of Sport! A very big thank you to our Senior Netball Captains who assisted in coaching the Junior Netball, both the players and staff are eternally grateful for your assistance.
CROSS COUNTRY:
In Term 2 the Championship Sport that was available was Cross Country and what an incredible term filled with lots of running! And I’m sure if you ask the Cross-Country Squad they will tell you it was a term filled with cold mornings… But regardless of how cold it was, every Tuesday and Friday morning the Cross-Country Squad trained at 7am preparing themselves for the Preliminary and Championship GSV Carnivals.
On Tuesday the 18th of May our Cross-Country Squad headed out to Yarra Bend Park in Fairfield to compete in the 2021 GSV Cross Country Preliminary Carnival and what a terrific day it was! We had 21 Juniors competing, 9 Intermediate and 12 Seniors. We had 4 girls place in the top 10 within their age groups, their results are as follows:
Juniors, who completed a 3km run:
4th place: Jamieson L with a time of 11:53.4
8th place: Tabatha M. D with a time of 12:26.4
Intermediate, who completed a 4km run:
5th place: Tiana P with a time of 16:02.9
Seniors, who completed a 4km run:
10th place: Georgia A with a time of 16:12.7
Overall, OLMC came 4th. What a tremendous effort! This qualified us to compete in Division 2 come the GSV Championship Carnival, which unfortunately never came. The Championship Carnival was within reach, only 1 day away from competition when the Victorian Government announced another snap lockdown. GSV is working with all competing schools to possibly still provide a Championship Carnival in Term 3 so don’t hang up your runners just yet!

Charlotte placed 8th in the handicap category and Sophie placed 2nd in the without handicap category. Congratulations to both.
WEEKLY SPORT:
Term 1 GSV Weekly Sport was highly anticipated after a year of no sport. The term started off with a bang and it was (almost) all smooth sailing from there. Despite 1 lockdown, 1 public holiday, 1 washed out tennis court and a couple of forfeits our Softball and Tennis squads were excited to play and determined to win. We had 11 wins across all tennis teams throughout the season, and 8 wins (and 1 draw) across all of the softball teams. A tremendous effort by everyone. Hopefully all players involved had as much fun as possible and are eager to return and play again next year.
Congratulations and thank you to all of the players who were committed to their team, the coaches for helping guide all of their players, the covid safe marshals for ensuring that we can continue playing competitive sport in a safe way, the bus drivers for ensuring that every team gets to where they need to go, and of course the umpires, without them GSV weekly sport wouldn’t be possible.
TRIATHLON:
Bright and early Sunday the 21st of March, 17 very keen OLMC girls went down to a very wet, rainy and cold Altona Beach to compete in the 2021 GSV Triathlon.
We had 4 teams competing and 5 individuals. Every single competitor ran, swum or rode to their absolute best. For some this was their first Triathlon and many were seasoned OLMC Triathlon competitors. The race consists of a challenging 300m ocean swim, 10km cycle and 2km run.
A big thank you to Mr. Robertson, Mrs. Mitsikas and also our Triathlon Captain Karina. M, for giving up their weekend to come down and facilitate this event.

The year 9s and 12s swept the pool, placing in the top 3 in all but one event! An astonishing effort by all involved. A huge congratulations to every single swimmer that showed up and tried their absolute best. We had some absolute nail-biting races with our Year 9 relay team coming runner up to first place by a mere 16 split seconds!
Congratulations to the 12 girls that qualified and competed at the GSV Swimming Finals Evening on Tuesday the 30th of March. It was a great effort by all, you should all be extremely proud of yourselves.
We had 3 girls finish on the Podium in individual races, Sofia. P - 2nd place, Amelia. V - 3rd place, and Olivia. N - 2nd place. We also had our Year 12 Medley Relay team finish 2nd, well done to Millie. C, Eliza. B, Zoe, B and Olivia, N.
Overall the swimming program at OLMC in Term 1 has been a terrific success. Everyone is eager to (after some well deserved rest), get back in the pool and try our hardest in 2022. Hopefully OLMC will come out on top of those challenging, nail biting races next year!
And also a big thank you and farewell to Olivia, Eliza, Millie, Lucy, Zoe, Caitlin and Lucy for their domination in the pool over the years and also their six-year commitment to the OLMC Swimming program. The OLMC Swimming Program will miss your presence dearly.
DIVING:
Despite the Diving program being formally cancelled at OLMC in 2021 due to coaching issues, our team of seven determined and experienced divers participated in the GSV Diving Championship Carnival at MSAC on the 23rd of March. Polly. M, Charlotte. D, Isabella. W, Felicity. P, Ebony. P, Caitlyn. S and Abbey. B, all represented the school in a number of diving contests throughout the morning. The highlight of the carnival was our Senior team taking out the Premier Senior Division 3 Diving flag, congratulations to those girls.
Well done to all of those involved, it was a great morning!
Good Luck to both our swimming and diving competitors that are participating in the GSV Finals Evening on Tuesday the 31st of March, our fingers and toes are crossed for you!
HOUSE SWIMMING CARNIVAL:
Despite weeks of planning and preparation, there was one thing the Sport Department couldn’t control… Melbourne’s weather. The night before the swimming carnival Melbourne absolute turned it on (the rain that is) and sadly, our annual house swimming carnival was unable to proceed this term. Rest assured that many conversations between Northcote Swimming Pool and OLMC have transpired and we are trying our absolute hardest to provide you with a Swimming Carnival this year.
JUNIOR SCHOOL LUNCHTIME SPORT ACTIVITIES:
In Term 1 the opportunity to participate in a lunchtime house netball competition was presented to the girls in year 7 and 8. Every day that the competition was running at lunchtime we had an abundance of girls playing, many that came along to help coach their friends, teams checking out their competition and also a number of supporters.
Thank you to all who participated, and a massive thank you to the 2021 Netball Captains for giving up their lunchtime to come down and help score or umpire.
