About Me
Greetings and salutations to all! I'm a high school Literature and Composition 1 & 2, Speech, and Theatre teacher by day, and a high school Theatre director by night. It is said that art finds the heart of the individual; this is something I truly believe. Though I adore art, it does not fully define who I am, nor does it fully define anyone. We are complex individuals and as such, we are allowed to explore the world to find all the parts of ourselves. This is a philosophy I truly believe in and hope to expand to my students, friends, family, and all!
I was born on the island of Oahu, Wahiaua, Hawaii, to be specific. As such, I am not Polynesian... not even close! My parents were educators with wandering feet and adored the islands. As life often dictates, changes in circumstances result in location shifts. That brought our little family to the much cooler and temperature diverse Michigan. Needless to say, they wished to return to the islands as soon as possible! Life emerges as it wills and Michigan became our permanent residence. Raised in St. Johns, I truly adored the changes of seasons, changes being what creates the individual.
I ventured past my high school years and walked the pathways of Michigan State University, majoring in English Language Arts, with an extended minor in Theatre Education, and a cognate in Psychology. These allowed me to explore many facets of life and education, delving deeper than surface words, and opened new worlds. I desired more and expanded my education to achieve an Master's degree in Theatre Administration and Education.
My journey brought me to the halls of Olivet in 1996. The community captured me, the students intrigued and challenged me, my colleagues inspired me, and I felt at home once again. To this day, I am grateful for everything I have here at Olivet Community Schools.
